What Should It Feel Like Taking Clomid?
written by Pat Antliff
You have probably been trying to get pregnant for awhile and have gone to your doctor or OB/GYN for some help. If you doctor recommends fertility drugs the usual first treatment
choice is a pill called clomid. Clomid is the first treatment choice as it is easy to take and it is inexpensive. Other types of fertility drugs usually have to be injected and can cost thousands of dollars per cycle. Clomid usually costs less than $100.
Clomid works by tricking your body into thinking that it is having trouble ovulating. In response your body will make your ovaries work harder to produce eggs. If you have not been ovulating at all then clomid may result in ovulation. If you have been ovulating then clomid may result in your producing multiple eggs in one cycle. Producing multiple eggs in a cycle will improve your chances of conception. (For more details on how clomid works see: )
You may have heard that clomid can have side effects and are wondering what it should feel like taking clomid. Many women take clomid and experience no side effects at all. Some women who do multiple clomid cycles may experience side effects on some cycles but not on others. So there is no one answer to what it should feel like taking clomid. It is really an individual experience. However, there are some things you may expect and some tips to follow when taking clomid.
You may find that you will feel a bit moody while taking clomid. In fact, some women call clomid "CLOMOOD". Some women find that they experience menopausal symptoms such as night
sweats and hot flushes. These are the most common experiences while taking clomid. Less common are headaches and visual disturbances such as flashing lights.
Fortunately, these side effects are only temporary and you should feel them disappear once you stop taking the pills. Clomid is taken for five days early in the cycle usually from cycle day 3 to 7 or 5 to 9. Clomid is just as effective taken on either cycle days 3-7 or 5-9. It is recommended to take clomid at night rather than during the day as it will reduce the chance of moodiness.
Make sure that you are being monitored by your doctor when you are on clomid. It is important to ensure that you do not end up producing too many eggs and getting a condition called hyperstimulation. If you are over the age of 35 or in your 40/s the chance of hyperstimulation is reduced but no one should take fertility drugs with out proper monitoring.
